Skydive 28.08

Wenn man dann schonmal in Australien ist, dann kann man auch mal einen Skydive machen. Für mich die größte Herausforderung bis jetzt. Als ich dann bei Peterpans war, um meine Tour Perth-Broome zu buchen, war ich dann gerade in der Laune, einen Skydive von 14.000 ft gleich mitzubuchen. Glücklicherweise hatte ich vorher Kathrin kennengelernt, die gleich mit mir gebucht hatte - als seeliche Unterstützung.

As a person that absolutly loves hights, clever me thought, that is was a brilliant idea to book a tandemskydive from 14.000 ft. Luckely, I met Kathrin and she was keen of jumping with me. - At least I had some moral support, in case i would "crack the shits".

Der Tag war also am 28.08 gekommen, an dem ich mal eben aus einem Flugzeug bei 14.000 ft rausspringen sollte. Was eine super Idee!

Soon it was the 28th, so why not jump out of a plane! Great Idea!

Um 7 Uhr wurden Kathrin und ich dann von einem kleinen Busschen abgeholt und die Fahrt nach York zum Absrpungsort ging los. Nachdem wir dann alle "eingecheckt" hatten, bekamen wir einen dicken Fleece-Pulli und eine dickere Hose zum drüberziehen. Zur "Belehrung", wie man sich verhält, wenn man jemanden gekettet ist und sich gen Boden stürtzt, schauten wir uns eine DVD an und gingen danach noch einmal eine wichtigen Punkte durch.

At 7 am we got picked up and headed towards York, where everyone was already waiting for us. After filling in some Details, we had to watch a DVD explaining how to behave when your falling without any breaks from 14.000 ft. To make sure we were all ready, one of the experienced Skydivers went through every single important lesson in the DVD.

Nachdem jeder seinen Tandemspringer gefunden hatte, zogen wir das Geschirr an und dann ging es auch schon ins kleine Safari-Flugzeug. Nach gefühlten 10 Minuten fragen Kathrin und ich ob wir denn schon Nahe an den 14.000 ft wären, denn es sah schon ziemlich hoch aus. 3.000 ft war die Antwort und wir mussten schlucken.

After finding the guy that would jump with you, we put on the harness and then off to the tiny plane. It felt like we already had been 10 minutes in the air, when Kathrin and I asked wether we were already at 10.000-ish ft. Our face expression must have been hillarious, when they showed us, it actually was only 3.000 ft.

Um das Ganze abzukürzen, als es dann soweit war, sollten drei Springer vor mir springen und dann war ich als viertes dran. Alles schön und gut. Außer, dass ich direkt neben dem "Ausgang" saß und somit jeden einzelnen auf der Kante sehen konnte, bis sie dann sprangen und für einen Augenblick noch zu sehen waren und dann einfach nur verschwanden. DAS war der Moment in dem ich mir dachte NEIN, lasst mich hier sitzen ich spring hier nicht raus.

Short version is, lucky me was sitting right next to the "door" so that I could see 3 other Jumpers sitting on the edge and then falling and venishing. Not exactly a comforting sight. That was also the very moment where I was convinced that a Skydive was the worst and stupidest idea I ever had.

Am Ende ging es dann alles ziemlich schnell, denn kurz danach saß ich schon auf der Kante. Kopf nach hinten, Beine anwinkeln und runter ging's. Es brauchte dann auch ein paar Sekunden bis ich realisiert hatte, dass ich gerade von 14.000 ft ungebremst gen Boden fiel - für eine Minute.

In the end I was sitting on the edge, putting my head back and with my heels against the bottom of the plane and without even knowing i was already falling. After a couple of seconds a realized that I was actually falling towards the grounds - without haven any breaks.

Am meisten genoss ich das Segeln mit dem Fallschirm! Einfach nur eine wunderschöne Aussicht und man konnte ganz entspannt im Geschirr hängen und mit dem Tandemspringer hinter einem erzählen.

Best things was gliding with the open parachute and letting the guy tied to you explain where which town is. So i was just hanging in the harness enjoying the view. Shocking moment was when I saw one of the single Skydiver making a looping. To make sure, I told my Companion NOT to do that with me - he laught...

Schlussendlich war es absolut das Geld wert! Und ich bin sehr, sehr froh, dass ich es gemacht habe.

In the end it was totally worth the money and I'm really glad I did it!!!
